STAR OF THE WEST

An historic city centre pub which disappeared as part of the expansion of the Prospect Centre 16 years ago is back on Hull’s social scene after being revived as part of a conversion project.

The Star Of The West has relocated further east from it’s original home in West Street to new surroundings in Trinity House Lane, where owners Robert and Anthony Jackson have found that memories are already flooding back.

“We have only been open a short while and people are commenting on the interior looking very similar to the original pub – it’s clear people still remember the old place with affection”.

This is what we wanted to achieve.

According to local historian aul Gibson, the original Star Of The West d back to the late 18th century, later becoming a grocers shop then an ale house in the 1870’s.

I’m Robert and I grew up drinking in the Start Of The West and was inspired to revive the brand he “olde worlde” style when looking into possible names for the former Café Bar 21 in Trinity House Lane.

I wanted a name that people would remember and Star Of The West  very popular until it was demolished in 1997.

I’m in partnership with my brother Anthony (better known as former Hull FC player Chico Jackson) and we also own Burlington Tavern, Trinity Bar and KFM Recruitment Solutions.

It was important for us to get the front of the pub right, and it’s clear from the reaction so far that we have done that. The inside also reflects the history of the pub and we hope that will appeal to a more mature clientele.
