After the Second World War, two Carter brothers returned from being held as Japanese prisoners of war and joined their father at Speedy Shoe Repairs in Botolph Lane, Cambridge. The business rapidly developed to the point where they started selling shoes as well as repairing them.
They soon identified the need for well made, reasonably priced shoes for undergraduates in Cambridge and so designed a range of Oxford’s semi brogues which were made to order by a well known Kettering manufacturer. These shoes are still in demand both from the new customers and requested to be sent to a large number of ex-Cambridge customers who now live in places as far flung as Australia, Canada, etc.
In 1994 the business moved to Barton in close proximity to Junction 12 of the M11, where free, off-road parking is available in our car park situated right outside the shop eliminating the hassle involved from town centre shopping and making a visit easy for people with walking difficulties. Sizes range from Men 5 – 13 E-H and ladies 2-10 AA-EEE fitting. The shop is laid out in traditional style with Yvonne and her team, providing individual attention to each customer. In addition to the normal range of quality ladies and men’s footwear sourced from independent suppliers the shop specialises in providing footwear for people who find it difficult to find shoes that really fit.
If you want quality leather footwear pay us a visit.
Please note: Opening hours and that we are closed on Sundays, Mondays and bank holidays.
We look forward to seeing you in Barton.
